Carnaval de Oruro

This carnival has its roots in ancient Andean invocations to Pachamama (Mother Earth), Uncle Supay (the devil), and the Virgin of Candelaria. It is Bolivia’s most diversified cultural manifestation, with dancers from all throughout the nation taking part. It is a wonderful cultural event that, together with Rio de Janeiro and Tenerife, has established itself as one of the world’s most important carnivals.

One of the most famous dances is the “Diablada,” which combines Andean and Catholic traditions. It contains costumes for both men and women, as well as devil masks. With their dance, they symbolise the escape from hell to judgment, guided by the Archangel Gabriel.

The Oruro Carnival is well-known across the world, and it has been recognized as a Masterpiece of Humanity’s Oral and Intangible Heritage by UNESCO. It’s a great experience that combines faith, religion, art, folklore, and a variety of emotions available only in Oruro, Bolivia’s folkloric capital.

F.F.C.C.U.S.S. Cochabamba

The first group was established on November 22, 1978, at the Universidad Mayor de San Simón in Cochabamba. The 100 Oruro citizens who were enrolled in classes at the university were baptized by Jorge Trigo Andia, the dean of that House of Higher Studies, who served as the new group’s father. They had their debut presentation in Oruro in 1979. It is still considered sacrosanct for the brothers to show devotion to the Virgin of  Socavón, as they refer to her. It took the people of the folk capital three years to decide to create a local Bloc of the new Fraternity. The Oruro, La Paz, and Santa Cruz Blocs were established ten years later, and during the 1993 administration, the bloc of the city of Sucre was created.

Currently, we have branches even outside our country’s borders, such as in the United States, where the Virginia, New York, New England, and California branches are located. In South America, we have branches in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. In Europe, we have branches in Spain, England, Italy, and France.
